Small, fast tanks with armor sufficient to resist small arms fire, not effective for tank-to-tank warfare, they were often used to support infantry. Unlike infantry tanks, light tanks have minimal armor, and are fast. They were sometimes made amphibious or airborne (able to be dropped by aircraft). Light tanks are usually armed with machine gunes, autocannons, or small anti-tank guns. By the later half of World War II, most nations had phased out production of light tanks in favor of medium tanks and heavy tanks.
